The street's FY26E revenue of US$1,874m, less the US$793m reported in the first half and the US$530m midpoint of the 3Q26 guide, leaves US$551m for the fourth quarter, up 4% QoQ. A fourth-quarter guide above that level puts the full year ahead of the street; weak smartphone and PC demand is the risk to it, and enterprise SSD controllers and Ferri boot drives are what management is counting on.
Management guided 3Q26 revenue to US$519-541m, up 114-124% YoY, with non-GAAP gross margin of 50.0-51.0%, and the street expects US$532.8m and non-GAAP EPS of US$3.30 per ADS. Revenue has come in above the top of the guided range in each of the last four quarters, most recently US$451.0m in 2Q26 against a US$393-411m guide.
Management guided 3Q26 non-GAAP operating margin to 27.5-28.5% from 23.1% in 2Q26, which at the revenue midpoint holds operating expenses near US$120m while revenue rises 18%. The street's FY26E EPS of US$11.19 per ADS needs a fourth-quarter operating margin of about 31%, in line with management's target to exit 2026 above 30%.
Inventory reached US$673m at the end of June from US$422m at December as Ferri and boot drive solutions, which include the NAND, grew to nearly 30% of revenue, and operating cash flow was negative in both quarters of 1H26. The August notes, zero coupon and convertible at US$380.50 per ADS, added US$1,127m of net proceeds to US$182m of cash, and the release should show whether inventory is still rising with NAND prices and what the cash is for.
At US$187.96 the shares trade at 16.8x the street's FY26E non-GAAP EPS of US$11.19 and 12.2x FY27E US$15.35, down from about 30x FY26E in July. Memory and storage stocks fell through October on reports of CXMT's progress in DRAM and worries about AI spending; Silicon Motion announced nothing in the period beyond its results date and a 15% dividend increase.
Silicon Motion Technology (SIMO US) designs NAND flash controllers, the chips that manage how data is written to and read from flash memory, and sells them to NAND makers, storage module houses and device OEMs. Its product lines are client SSD controllers, eMMC and UFS embedded controllers for phones and other devices, Ferri industrial and automotive storage modules with enterprise boot drives, and the MonTitan platform for enterprise and AI-server SSDs. Ferri and boot drive solutions grew to nearly 30% of revenue in 2Q26 from 4% a year earlier. The company is listed on Nasdaq as American depositary shares, each representing four ordinary shares.
Silicon Motion reports 3Q26 results after the US market close on 28 October, with the earnings call on 29 October at 8:00am Eastern time (company release, 8 October). The company guides one quarter at a time, so the full-year picture rests on management's July statement that 2026 revenue will more than double and on the street's numbers.

Silicon Motion reports quarterly, so the last print and the guide are the tracking points. Revenue has risen for five straight quarters, from US$166.5m in 1Q25 to US$451.0m in 2Q26, and has come in above the top of the guided range in each of the last four: 4Q25 printed US$278.5m against a US$254-266m guide, 1Q26 US$342.1m against US$292-306m, and 2Q26 US$451.0m against US$393-411m.
| Quarter | Revenue (US$m) | QoQ | Non-GAAP gross margin | Non-GAAP operating margin | Non-GAAP EPS (US$/ADS) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1Q25 | 166.5 | 47.1% | 8.9% | 0.60 | |
| 2Q25 | 198.7 | +19% | 47.7% | 12.8% | 0.69 |
| 3Q25 | 242.0 | +22% | 48.7% | 15.8% | 1.00 |
| 4Q25 | 278.5 | +15% | 49.2% | 19.3% | 1.26 |
| 1Q26 | 342.1 | +23% | 47.2% | 18.2% | 1.58 |
| 2Q26 | 451.0 | +32% | 50.2% | 23.1% | 2.43 |
| 3Q26 (guide) | 519-541 | +15-20% | 50.0-51.0% | 27.5-28.5% | street 3.30 |
In 2Q26 the growth came from Ferri and boot drive solutions, up 110-115% QoQ to nearly 30% of revenue, and from eMMC and UFS controllers, up 15-20% QoQ; SSD controllers rose 5-10%. The release will show whether the fourth-quarter guide carries the quarterly growth on, and which of the three lines is doing the work.
Management guided 3Q26 non-GAAP gross margin to 50.0-51.0% and operating margin to 27.5-28.5%, from 50.2% and 23.1% in 2Q26. At the revenue midpoint that puts operating expenses near US$120m, level with the US$122m of 2Q26, so the margin gain comes from revenue growing against a flat cost base. On the July call management said it expects to exit 2026 with an operating margin above 30%.
The street's FY26E non-GAAP EPS of US$11.19 per ADS, against US$4.01 reported in the first half and US$3.30 expected for 3Q26, leaves about US$3.90 for the fourth quarter. On the implied US$551m of revenue and a 22% tax rate, that needs an operating margin of about 31%, the level management has set as its year-end target. The street's FY27E EPS of US$15.35, up 37% on revenue up 30%, assumes margins keep widening.
Our forecasts carry FY26E revenue of US$1,874m and FY27E revenue of US$2,430m, in line with the street. The 4Q guide is where we expect to part from it. A guide in our US$550-600m range would put FY26E revenue at US$1,873-1,923m, so the street's full-year number holds unless the guide falls short of US$551m.
Revenue for the quarter is guided and the street sits near the midpoint. Three issues in the release decide the fourth-quarter and 2027 numbers; for each we give our expectation and the specific thing to check, with MonTitan as a fourth item.
At US$187.96 Silicon Motion trades at 16.8x the street's FY26E non-GAAP EPS of US$11.19 and 12.2x FY27E US$15.35, down from about 30x FY26E in late July. The peer median forward P/E of 17.1x (Exhibit 6) needs care in both directions: Micron and SanDisk trade at 4.9x and 5.9x next fiscal year's earnings, which sit at the top of a memory price cycle, while Seagate and Western Digital trade at about 17x and Marvell at 53x. On forward EV/Sales the shares trade at 3.3x against a 5.2x peer median.
Against its own history the multiple has halved while the estimates have risen. In late July the shares were US$270.90 and the street's FY26E EPS was near US$8.90; the 2Q26 beat and the 3Q26 guide have since lifted that estimate by about a quarter to US$11.19, and the shares have fallen 31%.
The fourth-quarter guide is the nearest number that can move these multiples. A guide at or above US$551m supports the street's full-year EPS and the 16.8x; a guide below it would take the FY27E figure down with it. For a company the street expects to grow revenue 30% in 2027 after more than doubling in 2026, the shares enter the print priced below the drive makers on forward earnings and above the memory makers, whose multiples rest on cycle-peak earnings.
